Cheryl Davis Hornung has been an API customer of Click2Mail since 2012. We recently learned that she was being recognized by “Worldwide Who’s Who” for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in entrepreneurship. We are so proud of her and so inspired by her story that we wanted to share it with all of you.
One of Cheryl’s greatest joys in life is traveling; it’s something she does quite often. She has always loved sending and receiving postcards from new and different places, so when her grandchildren were born, she couldn’t wait to start the tradition with them. That’s when Cheryl discovered how difficult it was to find postcards – especially from historical sites – that were geared toward children.
So on a trip to Goteborg, Sweden, Cheryl decided to take matters into her own hands and create her own postcards. That’s where the idea of “If U Were Here” was born. The idea evolved into Heckery Dekkery Dot Travel Game Postcards. The title comes from the last names of Cheryl’s two grandsons: Hecker and Dekker.
Heckery Dekkery Dot is currently trademarked in both Germany and the United States, and Cheryl hopes to expand into other territories. Customers can purchase postcards, play games, and get more information through the website, www.ifuwerehere.com. Cheryl’s goal is to also create an app with interactive games and to introduce the postcard games as part of a classroom exchange. She also hopes to offer her services to charitable organizations.
In an interview with Examiner.com, Cheryl said: “I would like to see children upload their own photos and their own art to create postcards for their friends and relatives. And, of course, I would like to see organizations use the site for fundraising. I have also arranged for an environmentally safe blog spot for children – Heckery Dekkery Kids – so it would be possible for families to have their own blog on the site. It would be especially suitable, I think, for families when they have to be away for long periods of time, while a child is receiving medical treatment, for example. I have lots of ideas, but not enough time to pursue all of them!”
