Why Mail This Month? Start 2013 Off On the Right Foot

A New Year. As people start to recover from all the holiday hoopla, reach out to them to let them know how you can help them get the new year started on the right foot. Gyms, personal trainers and yoga studios can appeal to people's desire to turn over a new leaf in 2013, but they're not the only ones that can tie a mailing to New Year's resolutions. Take, Sara, a nutritionist who decided to use direct mail to connect with people who wanted to start eating healthy in the new year. 


She designed an attractive reply postcard mailer that explained her services. Recipients could tear off the reply card and drop it in the mail to request a free consultation. Then she used Click2Mail's mailing list services to purchase a mailing list of women age 35+ with high annual incomes, since she knew that was her "sweet spot" when it came to likely clients. Sara gained several new clients from the mailing, and she plans to make the new year's mailing a part of annual marketing efforts. 


Get to Know Your Customer Day – January 17th, 2013. This isn't a well-known holiday, but it is a great excuse to reach out to your customers and let them know you care. Depending on your business, that could mean a simple thank you note or perhaps a special in-store offer.

He also included a link to a brief online survey that was designed to gather some additional information that would help him better serve his customers in the year ahead. Anyone who completed the survey received a gift card to use at a local restaurant. He felt his efforts was well worth it, as he gained valuable insight that allowed him to improve his business operations, and he plans to repeat the effort this year.  


Martin Luther King Jr. Day – January 21st, 2013. This federal holiday recognizes the birthday of civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. Any direct mail you send should tie into the themes of tolerance and respect – you don't want to seem like you're trying to exploit the legacy of one of the most celebrated men of the 20th century. 


Consider the example of one large non-profit, which sent a mailing to its volunteers encouraging them to mark the holiday as a “Day of Service.” The non-profit used Click2Mail's Mailing Online Pro API to seamlessly process the mailing of a 5 x 8 postcard. The postcard featured a list of one-day volunteer opportunities on the holiday that people could sign up for, and was mailed to thousands of people on the organization's mailing list.
