Why Mail in June? Grads, Dads, and Fireworks

Jun 05, 2011

Cue the Alice Cooper - school's out for summer! June officially launches the summer season, beginning with graduation, celebrations for Dad, block parties, barbeques, and fireworks as we head into July. Clearly, there are plenty of reasons to celebrate - and to mail - this month.

Graduation - In most parts of the country, school's out for summer in June. That means graduations - from Kindergarten, 5th grade, high school, and college. Help your customers and prospects celebrate the grads in their lives. Send a mailer promoting your "school's out!" special event.

Flag Day - June 14. Celebrate the American flag and the independence that it represents. In the spirit of meaningful symbols, design a mailer around your own logo or tagline and use it to explain to prospects (and remind customers) of the benefits you offer them.

Juneteenth - June 19. A state-recognized holiday in many states, Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery, marking the day when Union soldiers came to Texas and announced that the war had ended and the slaves were freed. Celebrate the occasion with a message of freedom and empowerment.

Father's Day - June 19. As with Mother's Day, your Father's Day target audience is most likely Moms, wives, daughters, and sons who are shopping for the Dads in their lives. Send a lighthearted "No more ties!" gift-giving guide or suggest ways that your products or services would make a great gift for Dad.

First day of Summer - June 21. Let the backyard barbeques, pool parties, and dog days begin! Celebrate the first day of summer with a special in-store party. If it's appropriate for your business, put together gift baskets of summer necessities - sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, flip flops, a beach/pool bag - branded with your company logo, of course.

Beginning of the third quarter. More companies mail regularly than mail for specific holidays or seasonal promotions. July marks the beginning of the third quarter - a good time to put out that regular mailer (if you don't mail monthly, you should at least mail once a quarter to keep yourself at the front of your customers' and prospects' minds).

Independence Day - July 4th. The 4th is America's quintessential day of picnics, parades, and fireworks, all celebrating America's Declaration of Independence. Design a mailer that invites prospects to "Declare your independence from high fees, absent ‘service' reps, and so-so-quality products." Highlight the key benefits you offer that your competitors don't (but take care to not identify your competitors directly or you could run into legal trouble).
