Why Mail this Month? Why Mail in April?

Apr 01, 2012

Great Mailer Ideas for the First Full Month of Spring

April Fool's Day – April 1st: If it makes sense for your business, send a lighthearted “April Fool’s” joke to your customers and prospects. If you’re really creative (and bold), create an in-house “Fool’s” event and promote it with a fun mailer.

Prom season: If you are an entertainment venue, hotel, restaurant, or sell related products or services, capitalize on this huge event season, brought to you courtesy of nearly every high school in America. Remember to think about your particular audience – prom-goers in Los Angeles are looking for a different experience than prom-goers in Jacksonville. To ensure that your message is targeted and personalized for your particular audience, check out our Mailing List Services.

Spring cleaning: For some businesses, it may make sense to take advantage of customers’ “spring cleaning” impulses. If you’re a carpet cleaning company, professional organizer, maid service or non-profit seeking donations of used goods, consider sending out spring cleaning-themed mailers, such as a jumbo postcard offering a seasonal discount.

Beginning of the second quarter: If you don’t mail monthly, you should at least mail once a quarter to keep yourself at the front of your customers’ and prospects’ minds. April marks the beginning of the second quarter – a good time to put out that regular mailer, whether it's a flyer newsletter or personalized letter.

Tax Day – April 17th: (This year, you get two extra days to file your taxes.) Most Americans are united in their general dislike of paying taxes, so now is the perfect opportunity to give your customers a much-deserved bonus, such as a free drink with the purchase of a meal, or a special buy-one-get-one deal. Or consider a "stretch your refund" promotion, where you offer a special discount that helps your customers make their tax refund last a bit longer. As you plan your tax day mailing, consider using Every Door Direct Mail to reach every address in a neighborhood at an incredibly affordable rate.

Earth Day – April 22nd and Arbor Day – April 27th: These days, it seems like everyone is "going green." And there’s no better time to highlight your own eco-friendly efforts than on Earth Day or Arbor Day. If your audience is environmentally conscious, send a letter explaining ways that you’re dedicated to sustainability. (Worried about the environmental impact of direct mail? Check out our blog post on the reasons why direct mail with Click2Mail is green.)

Administrative Professional’s Day – April 25th: Administrative Professional’s Day is a huge gift- and card-giving holiday. If it makes sense for your business, encourage your customers to show their appreciation for their administrative professionals.

Cinco de Mayo – May 5th: Planning and implementing your mail campaigns can take a while, so now is the time to start thinking about May, too. Tequila, tacos, and the traditional Mexican musicians, mariachis, are probably the most celebrated symbols of the Cinco de Mayo holiday. Send a fun, festive “Hola” to your customers or prospects. If it makes sense, host a promotion with music, or a tequila tasting, and send out a postcard mailer to let your customers know about the upcoming event. Get creative; you don’t have to be a Mexican restaurant to take advantage of the 5th of May.

National Teachers Day – May 8th. If you count any teachers among your customers or prospects, show them that you care with a special gift or discount. Even if you don’t market to teachers, you could send a mailer reminding your customers to thank the teachers in their lives. You can use Click2Mail's Mobile Marketing service to create an integrated National Teacher's Day marketing campaign that combines direct mail, QR codes, and mobile websites.

Take advantage of less-mailed holidays, like Tax Day or Cinco de Mayo, to reach customers and prospects who are inundated with mail on more traditional holidays. Creating a relevant mailer around Cinco de Mayo or Tax Day also forces you to be more creative (than if you were mailing for, say, Mother’s Day) – which means your mail is more likely to stand out, get noticed, and make a difference.
